Breakfast, lunch, or dinner time you can find assorted princesses dining at both Cinderella’s Royal Table (Magic Kingdom) and Akershus (Epcot: Norway pavillion). Which one to choose? On our last visit to Disney World we ended up having a meal at each place and our consensus was unanimous.
For lunch or dinner, either one is wonderful!
While both offer breakfast, we aren’t big breakfast eaters and far prefer to have a mid day (or evening) “sit down” break for an hour or so and we find that often it works in lieu of a “back to the hotel for a rest” break. So how does it work, and what do we like about Akershus? In this article I will dive into the ins and outs of the experience. What do the girls think? Here is a link to their YouTube video.
From cocktails to entrees: Akershus offered some truly unique and very different than the usual Disney World fare. We enjoyed meatballs, seafood stew, and more things that we’d not had anywhere on property. I will also tell you that this really worked for us as eating out “burn out” is most definitely something that can happen for us. So the unique cuisine, really friendly waiters, and beautiful atmosphere added up to a solid win for our family.
This interior felt more like a real castle to us (vs Cinderella’s Castle). The feel is more rustic, and a bit more lived in not as stiff or formal. It is absolutely beautiful and we really felt like we were dining in a hall – half expecting a king to come around the corner with a big cup of wine or some such.
One tip/thing we tried: We each ordered a different entree. Elizabeth went for the beef with potatoes and I went for the meatballs. I expected to have to switch with her, but she ended up loving the different flavors and preparation! I was glad she was open to trying the adult menu (10+ and you’re paying adult price – might as well!) and that she enjoyed something new.
Bottom line review: We loved this experience and can’t believe we never came here before! This is still a tough reservation to get – though not quite as hard as Cinderella’s Table – so do be sure to book in advance. If time allows, this is definitely on our list of restaurants we want to re-visit on our next trip in 2019!
FAQ
What’s on the menu? You can find out more, see the menus, and make reservations on the Disney World website here.
What princesses are there? It can vary. We saw Snow White, Ariel, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty at our table; and Belle greeted us at the door. Never count on one specific princess or character at a dining experience just to be safe!
What if I have food allergies? Disney World is the absolute best. Let your server know and they’ll work with you!
How long does it take? It was around 75 minutes from the time we walked up to the time we were walking back out the door after eating. As a general rule I say to budget 90 minutes for character meals in case they are running behind or something takes longer.
Which Princess dining should I pick? If you’re feeling less adventurous or if you want the experience of eating in THE Magic Kingdom Castle, head to Cinderella’s Royal Table. Once inside the restaurant and overall experience though? We think Akershus holds its own!
